Poor Mercury... something significant (see last week's Top 20) did indeed happen to him during the past 7 days. Unfortunately it wasn't the kind of significant event he would have hoped for: Mercury died at the sharp end of Dolphin's well-maintained pick. All you mage-wannabes take note: life at the top is tough and more often than not, short. Consider Mercury as an example: since last week he has been the target of many a high-life stalker. His death was the culmination of several days of hectoring. His adversaries already come frighteningly close: Joxer and Ishmael thrashed the mage to within 1 stamina point of his life. Joxer appeard to be so humiliated by his failure to slay Mercury he attempted a FOD spell on his foe. Ishmael later had a pop on his own, while Mercury took a chance with Alice the warlock (and the partly decomposed ghoul) shortly after. So, what did our brave ex-mage have to say about his own death? "Its totally my very own fault, I realise I should have been protected, but I didnt care at that time.". Brave words, indeed.

All this means that Toto tops the chart for the first time! How long will our poochie-poo survive? If the last 7 days have been anything to go by, it might be kinder just to put him to sleep straight away to save him from the tough fights Mercury was put through before his final execution. Whatever, having played second fiddle to Mercury for so long, it is now Toto's turn at the top. Congratulations, Toto!

Sounds like there isn't much future for mages at the moment? Not so: Ishmael was a mere novice this time last week, but in only 4 or 5 days raced through the experience levels and acquired wizdom on Monday. If he hadn't been so fast, Ishmael would have qualified for the title of "Week's Fastest Climber", but his new Immortal status prevents his inclusion in the Chart! Instead Fujiyama (up just 2 places) grabs the title. With 7 personae stuck in the same position as last week, Toto and Fujiyama are this week's only climbers.

Slasher, Emmapeel and Trillian all fall two places a piece. Their slight slip has most likely been brought about by the high number of new entries this week. Mithriel makes an astounding entry, straight in at number 2. Dolphin (of mage-slaying fame) makes an appearance at number 9, and 3 places further down the chart Sherlock makes his first entry to the T20 at number 12.

Good luck to all our other newbies: Hawumph, Loser, Archangel and Aardvark. What are you waiting for? I hear wiz can be made in 5 days!
