Mercury has been our Number 1 player since Thursday, 14 May. That's four successive weeks at the top: a splendid achievement previously only managed by Dirk. I have a feeling that something significant will have happened to Mercury by this time next week. To be honest, I can't really lose. Mercury will either gain wizdom, break the record for most weeks at number 1, or die! Whatever happens it'll be significant and I look forward to it!
Toto has had an more impressive week than before. I've seen him scooting about The Land scooping T. In fact, after the very mild reproval I dished out in last week's commentary he put on 20,000 points in a couple of days. However it wasn't enough to catch Mercury, so Toto still remains at number 2.
With almost the same breath that Beermug cursed the evil toad Shortcake this time last week, he promised to change experience level to mage for a second time. He's kept his promise, but remains at number 6 in the chart, after Sonsie zipped up 3 places to pip him to number 5.
Beermug and Sonsie weren't the only players to make mage this week. However, they were the only players to make it AND survive. Madhatter was a novice 7 days ago, but shortly later had made mage! Impressive stuff: he almost certainly would have been the Highest New Entry, if it hadn't been for someone invisible.... Anthrax, last week at number 15, also put on sufficient points to make mage, before he too had his existence seize up when Damned the warlock killed him.
Perhaps Anthrax was unlucky: he had 2 wafers when he attacked the warlock, who only had 17 stamina points. Surely a certain kill for Anthrax? Apparently not. Anthrax was himself on 43 stamina at the onset of the fight, and with 2 powerful blows from Damned had no chance to scoff the wafers, or even flee. Hence an own goal for Anthrax with the final score line warlock 1 mage 0. He woz robbed! (I had to get a football-like reference in here somehow!).
Elsewhere in the Top 20... Challenger, last week at number 7, amazingly (somehow) managed to swear himself to death. This week's Fastest Climber is Barafundle, up 8 spots to number 8. Together with Slasher (again up, this time 3 places to number 9) and re-entries Cylon and Melina, Barafundle has helped suppress this week's only two fallers: Shortcake and Joxer. Still, both Shortcake and Joxer have been in the Top 20 continuously since the beginning of April, so I'm sure they're well-placed to claw their way back up, in the process making some headway with whatever terrible deeds they're plotting.
The Top 20's Highest New Entry is Malaise at number 18. However, I wouldn't let her relatively low entry fool you. Suffice to say I don't have fond memories of her from my mortalhood. Despite this let me wish her and Obekahunt, both new this week, the best of luck in The Land.
| NUMBER ONE: | Mercury. |
| HIGHEST NEW ENTRY: | Malaise. |
| FASTEST CLIMBER: | Barafundle. |
| MOST NOTICEABLE ABSENCE: | Challenger. |
