MUD meet2pm, Saturday, 27 June 1998 in Edinburgh. |
|
There will be a meet for MUD2 players on Saturday, 27 June 1998, in Edinburgh, Scotland. We're looking forward to seeing players not only from the two existing MUD2 sites ("MUD2.COM" and "Wireplay"), but also anyone who hacked & slayed in The Land's previous incarnations. We'll be meeting up at 2pm in Deacon Brodies Tavern. Later we'll move on to eat somewhere and, since you've come to Edinburgh, we may even try to squeeze in one of the City's infamous Royal Mile Ghost Tours during the evening...
Deacon Brodies is not that far (at most 10 minutes walk) from Edinburgh Waverley, the railway station. It's a very well known pub in Edinburgh, so even if you don't take the map below with you, you can probably ask anyone the way! Edinburgh is a compact city with all its highlights within walking distance. If you arrive a little earlier than 2pm you'll find plenty to see (including the castle!), or you could drop into Cyberia (Hanover Street), where one or two of us will be from around midday. Who's Going? Those below have already said they'll be here. If you'd like your name added to the list, or removed, email mud2@decadent.demon.co.uk. It's quite important we know what numbers to expect (for booking somewhere to eat). If you think you'll be coming, please do let us know in advance! CatCrab Florence Fodrules Grumpy Hawumph Lestat Rainbow Richard Siouxsie Tabitha Tobias Zedd Also, if our luck holds out, Starfire will be jetting in from the US that weekend, arriving Sunday morning. If you decide to stay up here a couple of days, you'll no doubt meet her, too. |
How To Get HereWorried about the RMT union's maintenance workers rail strike? According to the BBC's reporting it shouldn't affect Saturday, 27 June. Getting to Edinburgh from almost any part of the UK is easy! Thankfully, we're well connected with the East Coast, West Coast and Cross Country inter city rail networks. On-line rail travel timetable enquiries can be made on the Railtrack web site. The St Andrew's Square coach station in the city centre services UK wide routes. By car or bike, Edinburgh is on the M8, M9 and A1. It takes about 8 hours to drive from London, via the M6, to Edinburgh. Lastly, Edinburgh Airport is located just to the west of the City and linked to the centre by both taxis and Airport buses (arriving at Waverley Bridge, by the station). Domestic services arrive from, among others, London Gatwick (BA), London City (Air UK), Luton (EasyJet), Leeds, Newcastle, Birmingham, Bristol, Norwich and Belfast. |
Where To StayIf you're staying Saturday night, or arriving on Friday, you'll find plenty of Bed & Breakfast places in Edinburgh. The Edinburgh and Lothian Tourist Board host web pages for a couple of guest houses, under "Accommodation", then "Members pages". The Tourist Board are reputed to provide very good advice on this subject if you 'phone them, including an Advance Reservation Service (details on their web page). Alternatively, if you're not the sort to make arrangements in advance, you could try dropping into their office (on Princes Street, next to Waverley station) before the MUDmeet. Lots of books and guides also detail cheap accommodation in Edinburgh. |
If you've any queries, feel free to either MUDmail Florence, Tabitha or Tobias, or email mud2@decadent.demon.co.uk.
